How come you can't feed them alfalfa, corn & cabbage?

Corn/maize contains mould. This mould causes jaundice (hepatitis) and is carcinogenic. These moulds are neurotoxins.
Alfalfa can cause hypersensitivity illness.
Cabbage causes thyroid enlargement and generally interferes with thyroid function.

Re: citrus, I saw on a NZ forum (I think) that it was only the skin that causes cancer! So the fruit, providing it has no skin, is actually safe.
None the less, Id still stay away.

What about rock melon and honey dew seeds and skins?

I've read you shouldnt give them things like apple seeds, seeds from stone fruit etc, so not sure if rockmelon and honey dew seeds are ok... i buy my rats seedless watermelon, but that still has little thin white coloured seeds in it. I keep pumpkin seeds (straight from the pumpkin, left to dry overnight) as treats for them as i havent read these are bad?
As for skins, i dont give them any skins really, unless its a grape or something
