Why would my mouse Cheeky move its tail like well sort of like a sail/flick. I notice it 2 days go when she was about to have a drink from her bottle? And Spot is so much quiter and slower moving, she puts her ears back / down ( I thought she maybe sick) when you have her out the ears slowly come up a bit nothing like cheekys, what would cause that? We have had them a week tomorrow, we brought them from Melbourne. And is it true mice only live for 2 yrs. L.C

Hi there this is what I've witnessed with my own mice over time and is not a professional answer OK!
Mice flick or thump their tail as a warning or when in a very high state of excitement. Not sure why she would have done it just prior to having a drink unless it was a warning to Spot to not get too close?
As for Spot and her ears. Mice flatten their ears when they are unsure or a bit frightened by their surroundings. So when she first comes out she is scared, but as she realises that it is safe she relaxes and her ears start to stand back up. I assume they stand up normally while she is safe in her cage?
Life span... yes, no, maybe..... Your average healthy, well looked after mouse should make it to 2yrs and possibly a little more. Some mice have gone on to make it to 2.5yrs but I wouldn't expect many to make it to their 3rd birthday. Then there is a chance that your mouse/mice might not make it to 2yrs either. It's a bit like humans, mother nature always has a hand in our fate and an illness or other outside influences can alter their life expectancy. The best you can do is note when your mice seem off colour and seek advice ASAP. It may be nothing or it COULD save or even prolong their life to seek professional advice in case something WAS wrong.

Thank you so bnrats, well I think cheeky must of excitied when I saw her doing her thing with her tail, as she had just been on a big adventure in the house (lucky no cats or dogs in the house), she got out of her cage, so that might have pumped her up.
Cheeky and Spot are in seperate cages ones in my sons room and the other in my daughters room. Thanks again
