Ok this is a first for me Lastnight when I went to give the ratty family thier dinner,as usual they all scramble to the side of the cage. I could see Columbias doodle was very enlarged,I dont mean erect,I mean AROUND..if that makes sense. He also looks as tho he has been licking at it,as the fur is discoloured. I am not sure how long he has been like that,as I dont make a habit of looking at thier doodles .. But im sure I would have noticed it before now if had been like that a while. He is still active and seems ok ..although Columbia has been struck with many little issues in his time. He has head tilt from a myco outbreak when he ws very very young, and has re occuring sniffles etc. I am currently medicating a few girls as they had sniffles, with vibravet. Would it pay to dose him up on that till i get him to the vet tomorrow??

Just for the record, myco doesnt cause headtilt, its caused by an inner ear infection. Myco is a respitory infection. It is possibly a 'penis plug', which is a build up of gunk on the penis. So youll need to er, squeeze it out, and then clear out the gunk. :l Enjoy!

We've had a couple of men get this problem (It's how Coxy got his name). We got Paw Paw ointment (but I guess you could use Vaseline or some kind of lubricant) and just put it back into place. This is very, very painful for the rat and it most definitely requires two or more people. The first time it happened we ended up getting several bites. The first time it happened we caught it early so we managed to get it to go back in first time, but the second time (different rats) it was more advanced. We 'lubed' him morning and night for about 2 days and it popped back in. Both boys were fine. ratguide.com/health/reproductive/paraphimosis.php - without that article we probably wouldn't have ever known what it was. I'm very sorry for your loss. <3
