boy how did I miss that comment? But I truly didn't hear anyone SAY it LOL OK sorry Sharz, thought it might have been a real statement as I see that said alot. I really wish the written word could be put across with the same tone as the spoken word sometimes.

I love love love Poodles! My family came this close to getting a Toy Poodle.
If you want a dog that you're not allergic to, get a Mini Schnauzer, Bichon, Poodle, Bolognese, Cairn Terrier, Chinese Crested (+ many other breeds but I can't name them all from the top of my head.)
Breeding for hypo-allergenic dogs is ridiculous because there are so many pure breeds out there who are hypo-allergenic. We have a gazillion dogs in shelters out there looking for homes because of people like this. (I bet there are lots of Poodle crosses too, who you won't be allergic to.) These dogs that they are breeding are MUTTS. They are cross breeds and try to justify them by giving them a stupid name like "Labradoodle".
I do not support the breeding of any animal unless it is for a purpose. Conformation, agility, intelligence, drive are all reasons. Breeding for a hypo-allergenic dog is not a reason.

Yes, there are precautions you should take before buying a certain breed of dog.

I loooove Schnauzers.. Only the black ones though. And funnily enough i don't mind chinese cresteds.. As long as they aren't the powder puff ones.
I think that only registered breeders should be allowed to breed and sell animals. It should be illegal to not desex your kitten or puppy.

I hate how some people just breed there animals for the sake of it. like they get a rat and think it will be cool it get some babies and than they don't know what to do with them.

That's kinda how we started out lol but as soon as we found out my mousie was pregnant we researched heaps and heaps so we would know what to do when the time came.

I started out with a pregnant female and we sold the babies at a garage sale and people kept coming back asking for more because they were so tame and a breeder started buying them from us because the Hans line was so placid, so we kinda started blind but the breeder helped us through it.

the problem isnt even so much a poodle one, though they are a common breed at the moment.
As BN said, there are soooo many of these being dumped that rescue groups can hardly keep up. Not to mention many other varieties.
People just see a quick buck, and dont care what happens next?
Ignorance, not enough education, or simply they dont care what happens to the dog after they have made the sale.
Mass breeders such as this make me sick...and if u look at the dogs they produce, its such a lucky dip...Lord only knows how your pup will turn out

I actually agree with the breeding of labradoodles-only this 'designer breed' though. Because it was started for people who needed a seeing eye dog, but wear allergic to their fur

Ignorance, not enough education, or simply they dont care what happens to the dog after they have made the sale. But what about education of all the "consumers"? Mass / irresponsible breeders are only half the problem and the equasion. If there was no one to buy them, they couldnt keep breeding them. If buyers were more cautious and careful about deciding to buy a dog, then they wouldnt be buying these and they wouldnt be dumping them when they want to "throw them out" People who buy dogs them dump them for no serious reason are just as bad as the people breeding them. But then again, anyone who is devastated about giving up a family pet because of something that is out of their control ususally wont "dump" an animal and try to ensure that it finds a good home. So I reiterate what i said above, breeders are only half the problem.

I agree, Wulfy. So many people are not educated and when they see a cute puppy, they buy it out of impulse only to realise later that they are not capable of looking after/affording it.
I wish there was a way to spread awareness on this.

yep..anyone that cares about a dog and had to rehome it,would do it in the most loving way possible.
Sure, its only half the problem, the sellers..but its still the same reasons.. Not enough education, and i dont mean academic, not enough common sense in a lot of cases..
For instance the other day I went to work to pick up my daughter ,she works at the same place, I went an hour early to do a few things before the shop closed.
As i pull up i see a dog sitting in the car with an inch of window in 36 degree heat...I wind my windows up to feel wat he must be feeling and the look on my face mustve said it all.. A woman then stopped and said, that dog was in there wen we went in about an hour ago...
I called the police of course. When i went back to check on the dog, there was yet another car parked with 3 dogs in it,..windows more open than the other poor dog,but still locked in a car on a hot day..
When the man came back to the poor red cattle near 2 hrs after he first left it,he copped a mouthful from the lovely ladies who waited by the dogs side (the ones who i first spoke to). His response to this was..the dogs alright..i do it all the time.
I know its unrelated to the story at hand, but a highlight to the fact that people just dont have enough common sense or God knows wat,to do what is right for the animal..Im sure this mans heart was in the right place...he loved his dog so wanted it to go for a drive...bla bla.. Grrr makes me mad!!

I saw a man the other day walking 2 white female poodles & one male black one. I have never liked poodles myself, and rotties, well I had one years back who killed my lil blue suede shoe buddy, a toy foxie male who was my main company. Broke through the fence n got him........I was devestated. I'd never have a dog again, I love animals, they rule, i'm hook line and sinkered these days on rats.
