couldn't you just breed with agouti than keep a du agouti baby (hopeing these is one) than breed with a lighter rat and hopefully you will get a du that is a different colour.

I think CR meant they want a DU that isn't black, not a black that isn't silvered black?
I have blacks that aren't silvered. Genetically they probably are, but it isn't visible. I think only 2 or 3 of my blacks actually have visible silvering.
It will only work that way is the agouti carries the right genes to make the different colurs. But yeah, as DU is dominant, just breed it to another colour and go from there. I'd use mink, as mink DU's are so pretty.

Theyre both recessive. A mink rat would be aa mm R- P-. Black is: aa M- R- P-. So neither of them are 'dominant' so to speak, but I think that if you bred them together, youd get more black, because mink carries black.

Okay, if the black carries mink, youll get half mink and half black, if it doesnt youll get all black.

I also have some black DUs I bred that I wouldn't call silvered, even though genetically they probably are. These three have the most beautiful coats and colour on them. (Look at my signature for a picture of another boy) I've noticed that a lot of DUs are just plain black and it is something I am working towards. All my DUs at the moment, as far as I am aware, don't carry mink, ruby or pink eyes...but in the next few generations I hope to have the rainbow going on!
